This publication is dedicated to Operation Crossroads—a series of US nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946—and the fate of the target ships sunk after the ABLE and BAKER explosions. The book examines the dawn of the nuclear age, the preparations for the tests, the course of the explosions, their aftermath, and their impact on warships of various classes. Special attention is given to the sunken destroyers, transports, submarines, battleships, the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga, and the Japanese ships IJN Sakawa and IJN Nagato, as well as the modern significance of these objects as historical underwater monuments.
