This publication is a reference book on warships, armament, and the development of the U.S. Navy from 1922 to 1947. The book provides information on naval armament, a chronology of events, the composition of combat forces as of December 7, 1941, as well as on battleships, aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, minelayers, patrol vessels, landing craft, transports, and auxiliary vessels. Separate sections are devoted to the U.S. Coast Guard, fleet construction programs, ship type designations, World War II operations, and shipbuilding facilities.
