This book is the first part of the interdisciplinary Transmare project, dedicated to the study of historical and contemporary aspects of maritime transport and its global interconnections. It brings together the work of scholars from various disciplines, including history, art history, archaeology, theology, sociology, and others, united by the common goal of tracing the development of maritime transport from antiquity to the present day. This volume demonstrates the high level of scholarly research and highlights the importance of international and interdisciplinary collaboration in studying the role of the sea in history and the modern era. It opens new perspectives for future research.
