The book is devoted to the important and potentially dangerous practice of transferring sea pilots to and from ships. She describes various methods of this transfer, such as the use of pilotage vessels, helicopters, or shore platforms, with an emphasis on the traditional wooden pilotage ladder, which is the most common. Despite the efforts of international organizations such as the International Association of Maritime Pilots (IMPA) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), accidents involving poorly equipped or unsafe ladders continue to be recorded. The book highlights the need for effective training and awareness of the risks associated with pilot transfer in order to improve operational safety and reduce injuries and deaths.
