The book is devoted to the history and development of underwater archaeology, starting with the first attempts to study shipwrecks in the 15th century using diving equipment and ending with modern methods such as the use of remotely operated underwater vehicles. She describes how, with the advent of scuba diving in 1943, the scientific study of underwater archaeological sites began, which led to a significant increase in activity in this area. The book also highlights the importance of technology for exploring deep-sea sites that were previously inaccessible to archaeologists, and highlights advances in robotic excavation since 2005.
