This book presents the proceedings of the 9th International Conference on Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures held in Nantes, France between 11 and 13 September 2023, under the theme “Advances in the Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures”. It occurs in 2023 instead of 2022, which would be the normal periodicity because COVID has created difficult conditions to keep the established periodicity. The history of this series of conferences on Collision and Grounding of Ships and Offshore Structures started a little more than twenty years ago, and previous conferences have been held in San Francisco, USA in 1996, in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2001, in Tokyo, Japan in 2004, in Hamburg, Germany in 2007, in Helsinki, Finland in 2010, in Trondheim, Norway in 2013, in Ulsan, South Korea in 2016 and Lisbon, Portugal in 2019.Participants are drawn from the industrial and academic sectors and are typically naval architects, marine engineers, and scientists from all over the world, who at ICCGS find a forum that provides an ideal setting to share experiences and be informed of the state-of-the-art developments in this area of expertise, providing the atmosphere for many fruitful discussions. For the first time in its history, the ICCGS Conference is organized in Nantes, France, where Institut Catholique d’Arts et Metiers (Icam, School of Engineering) has taken responsibility for the logistics and organization of the Conference, in collaboration with the Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (CENTEC), Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), University of Lisbon.
