Welcome to the Reeds PBO Small Craft Almanac 2023 - your trusty companion for cruising in UK waters, Ireland and the European coast from Denmark to France.
I first came across this guide back in 2001 whilst cruising from Brighton to Conwy in a Westerly GK24. My dad gave it to me, along with some charts and dividers, and tasked me with passage planning. It soon became indispensable for departure times, favourable tides, hazards, pilotage, port entrances and tricky headlands.
Whilst electronic aids to navigation have leapt forward in that time, this is one compact, quick-reference guide, no cruiser can afford to be without. You’ll find contact details for harbour authorities and marinas, tidal curves and tables and a full-colour guide to fl ags, lights and channel markers.
For the small boat sailor, this book has everything you need, compiled using the same trusted data as the full-size Reeds Almanac. Indeed, over 20 years later, I am still using it for passage planning, only this time in our PBO Project Boat, a Maxi 84.
